Above Images: Male M. septendecula and M. septendecim on a Lilac branch. Specimens were collected in Hedgesville West Virginia on June 5th, 2004 and photographed in a controlled environment. Compare the size difference between the two specimens. A quick way to identify a M. septendecim is the burgundy patch behind the eyes and in front of the forewing hinges.

Above Images: Male and Female M. septendecim on a Lilac branch. Specimens were collected in Hedgesville West Virginia on June 5th, 2004 and photographed in a controlled environment. Note in the first image on the left how this M. septendecim is using it's beak to drink from the Lilac branch. The beak can be seen just behind the front forelegs driven deeply into the branch. This specimen is believed to be a female due to the shape of the tip of the abdomen.
